Vidya Shivadas is a curator based in New Delhi, and Director of The Foundation for Indian Contemporary Art (FICA). FICA was set up in 2007, to support artists, art historians, curators, art critics, and other professionals devoted to the study of contemporary Indian art, as well as to conduct educational and art outreach programmes.
In 2014 she was part of the international curatorial team for the exhibition Where Do I end and You Begin, organised by Edinburgh Art Festival and City Art Centre. In 2013, she was the guest curator (along with Akansha Rastogi and Deeksha Nath) of the exhibition Zones of Contact: Propositions on the Museum at the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art and in 2009 she was a guest curator at Devi Art Foundation and worked on the solo exhibition of Bangladeshi artist Mahbubur Rahman. She has also undertaken a series of curatorial projects at the Vadehra Art Gallery from 2005 onwards. Shivadas’s research interests are centred on the relationship between art institutions, art criticism and art practice. In 2009, she received the Asia Art Archive’s Research Grant for her research on the development of art criticism in India from post independence to the present. In 2007 she received a fellowship from Goethe-Institut and Education Department of Documenta 12 to participate, with five other international curators, in the Educational Programme of Documenta 12 between May 17 and September 23, 2007.
