Khirkee-Ki-Khoj: Khirkee Mural

The Khirkee Mural project was part of a series of projects that aimed to take art out of the gallery space and back into the public domain. The wall facing KHOJ was transformed into a gigantic canvas with input from the community throughout the process. The result was a true marriage of the aesthetics of both the community and the artist.

About this programme

KHOJ has initiated a series of projects that aim to take art out of the gallery space and back into the public domain. In our previous interaction with the Khirkee community, we mapped the street, made friends with a few residents and held a show where we photographed friends and tried to unveil the various perspectives of friendship. KHOJ also carried out a kite-making workshop for the children in the community. In continuation with the community based art projects, the wall facing KHOJ was transformed into a gigantic canvas as part of the Khirkee Mural project in 2005.
