Open Call: Land·Ecological Art on Eulsukdo – We Pass, the Earth Endures
Busan Metropolitan City invites individuals and teams from around the world to propose a Site-responsive Work of Land and Ecological Art for Eulsukdo, an estuarine island at the mouth of the Nakdong River, South Korea’s longest river.
Situated within a brackish estuary where the river meets the sea, Eulsukdo is an important stopover for migratory birds travelling along the East Asian–Australasian Flyway. The island was once heavily altered by agriculture, landfill and urban development, but it has since been restored as wetlands and migratory bird habitats. This layered history invites reflection on coexistence between human and more-than-human life.
The Open Call seeks original proposals that respond to Eulsukdo’s ecology, landscape, history and changing environment, while minimizing ecological disturbance and demonstrating environmental responsibility throughout the work’s lifecycle.
