Call for applications: the Dara Shikoh Fellowship
The Fellowship focuses on global creative dialogue around Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh, with an emphasis on intersectional conversations that put gender, sexuality, and caste in conversation with each other and with the political dynamics of the region.
The Fellowship is open to current undergraduate and graduate students, or those who have graduated in the past year. For 2018, the Fellowship is inviting applicants who want to explore connections between art and ecology in Ladakh, which is seeing rapid environmental and cultural transformations in the face of uncontrolled tourism and climate change. Projects can involve collection of oral history narratives, documentation of climate change, video depictions, or any creative approaches towards engaging with the subject matter.
The Fellowship is a month-long residency that acts as an incubator for longer projects. Assistance is provided to Fellows to get in touch with artists and activists from the region, in addition to professional contacts like gallerists or grant-giving organizations that can fund further research or project-related work. More details on the Fellowship, and previous Fellows (who have worked on intersections between Mughal miniatures and contemporary art and on similarities between cultural spaces in Srinagar and Cairo) can be found on the Fellowship’s website.
