Curatorial Intensive South Asia – An initiative by Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan, Delhi, and Khoj International Artists’ Association

Curatorial Intensive South Asia (CISA), invites applications for a new fellowship for young curators from South Asia. The program aims to develop a diversity of perspectives on the medium of the exhibition and to provide both a structured and an experimental inquiry into the possibilities of curatorial practice today. CISA wishes to support creative thinking by building an institutional infrastructure for making and exhibiting Contemporary Art.

The programme will be led by Dr. Benjamin Meyer-Krahmer (Professor, Institute of Theory, HGB Leipzig) and co-tutored by Dr. Kavita Singh (Professor, School of Arts and Aesthetics, JNU). It will be supplemented by guest lectures by practicing curators, artists and academics. Participation in the two-week residential programme is mandatory.

There are two phases to the fellowship. The first phase is a two week residential programme at Khoj Studios in July 2017. In the second phase the fellows will have the opportunity to independently develop curatorial projects over a period of six months during which they will be mentored by the programme leaders.

Fellows will be expected to return to New Delhi to display the projects in late 2017/ early 2018.

ELIGIBILITY:

-Applications from participants residing in South Asia: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, India, Iran, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka are eligible to apply.

-Applicants should have completed a course in humanities (anthropology, art history, cultural studies, musicology, literature etc.),

-OR be practitioners, who have realized a certain number of projects or have established a not for profit gallery, an artists’ run space or similar.

-OR the applicant must have 3+ years of curatorial experience.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:

-A letter of motivation stating your personal drive as well as your expectations of the programme (max. 750 words).

-A CV, including a description of your relevant working experience and your personal details not exceeding two pages.

-Three recent writing samples, preferably published.

-A portfolio with a maximum of 3 curatorial or artistic projects (texts, images etc.; unrealized projects may also be included)

– Two written references of (former) tutors, professors or employers, in English.

12 Fellows will be selected from across South Asia by a Jury instituted by Khoj and Goethe-Institut /Max Mueller Bhavan. Travel, accommodation and living costs for phases I and II will be provided for all selected applicants. A modest production fund will be made available to all the fellows towards realization of their curatorial projects.
