LABVERDE was created to strengthen the limits of art through a broad array of experiences, knowledge sets and cultural perspectives involving art, science and nature. The program main goal is to promote artistic creation through a constructive debate about environmental issues generated by both theory and life experiences in the Amazon rainforest.

The journey starts with a boat trip and it gets deeper in an ecological reserve in the heart of the Amazon region, allowing a selected group of artists to explore different scales and perspectives of the rainforest along with the mediation of specialists in art, humanities, biology, ecology and natural science.

Ten days sharing knowledge and practices in an intensive schedule of expeditions, lecture, workshops, presentations, boat trip and seminar to enhance creativity having nature as a common ground.

Exploring the Amazon rainforest, discovering the richness of its biodiversity and understanding its importance for the planet’s ecological balance will foster an analytical and critical perspective of issues such as landscape interpretation, nature representation, and the role of art in engaging social-ecological behavior.

The network exchanges and the knowledge sets throughout the program will be an opportunity to develop innovative cultural content. After the program, participants will be able to improve their own creative discourses, identify natural environmental problems and solutions, and reflect on the role of art in influencing ecological behavior.

LABVERDE has been designed by a multidisciplinary team of highly qualified international professionals from Manifesta Art and Culture and The National Institute of Amazonian Research (INPA).

Manifesta Arte e Cultura is a cultural producer aiming for new ways to create and disseminate knowledge about the Amazon and the environment. It focuses on fostering contents to boost a conscious relation between Mankind and nature, exploring the limits of art through a broad array of experiences, which involves a dynamic body of multidisciplinary knowledge and different cultural perspectives.

The National Institute of Amazonian Research (INPA) is a world reference in tropical biology. INPA conducts research, surveys and inventories of fauna and flora, and investigates the sustainable use of natural resources of the Amazon.(http://portal.inpa.gov.br)
