New Delhi Residency
‘New Delhi Residency’ is an opportunity for artists to be based in Delhi for a short duration (from minimum one week to maximum three months) and explore possibilities in their creative journey.
The program started in 2005 in a studio cum service apartment by hosting few Artist friends and within short period of its existence, it has become home for several visiting artists from various continents and countries involved in multi disciplinary creative projects in literature, performing and visual arts.
The facility is available to individuals working in any creative medium /field as well as small groups with specific projects.
Individual spaces or the entire building can be hired on weekly basis according to the need of the specific projects
An entire three-storey building is dedicated to the residency program. It has a lively and pleasant environment with simple infrastructure, basic amenities and practical needs for the residents.
It is located in Lajpat Nagar,a residential colony in the center of Delhi, near a bustling Central Market with easy access to all parts of the city. New Delhi Railway station is 12kms from the residency. Domestic and International airports are approx 20kms away. (About an hour’s drive)The building (3000sq feet) has four rooms (200 sq feet each) on split-levels and common area (700 sq feet) on the ground floor for meetings, dining and kitchen facilities.
The basement [700sq feet] can be extension for workspace, according to ‘individuals’ and their specific needs .It can be also used for rehearsals, interaction, workshops, presentations and exhibitions.
All the four living cum studio spaces (200sq feet each) are well lit, clean and comfortable. They can be used by individuals for work and stay or simply used as twin sharing accommodation for two occupants.
All the four rooms are air-conditioned, well furnished with movable furniture. These could be easily transformed into studio spaces whenever needed. Each room has a private bathroom (toilet cum shower with running hot water facility) Bed linen and towels are provided in the rooms. Personal lockers and telephone facilities are also available in the room.
The common kitchen space for the residents is well equipped for cooking (self help) and enough storage space for provisions.
The other common facilities for the residents are Refrigerator, Microwave, Landline Telephone, Wi-Fi Broadband Internet Service, Power Backup System (incase of electricity failure), Filtered drinking water, Washing Machine and Ironing facility.
Laundry and Ironing service is also easily available in the vicinity.
There is a part time caretaker for cleaning, maintenance and security of the place.
The room rent depends on the type of accommodation single/twin sharing
(single @Rs14000/-per week and twin sharing studio @Rs21000/- per week for two occupants)
The basement space can also be hired separately on daily charges for Workshops, meetings, rehearsals, presentation, ‘Open House’ and also activities like project preparations etc.
We are open to applications through out the year with no specific deadlines. The selection procedure depends on the nature of the project and the availability of the space during the desired period.
The application needs to have a brief resume of the applicant, details of the project proposal, the duration of stay, tentative dates and two reference names and contacts in their specific field of work.
We look forward to positive collaborations, relationship, and cultural exchange and encourage interaction with local community of craftsmen, designers, artist, curators, and galleries for future prospects.
