Bio

Sahil Kumar (b. 2001) is a visual artist whose practice explores the concept of invisibilities of healing across physical and psychological dimensions. He holds a BFA in Painting from Indira Kala Sangeet Vishwavidyalaya, Khairagarh, Chhattisgarh, and MFA in Painting expanded into New Media and Installation, from Shiv Nadar University, Delhi.

His practice traces healing as a broader human impulse toward becoming- toward an imagined, often utopian, version of the self. while drawing inspirations from his surroundings, animal lives and conversation with his mother. Citing the human bodily conditions like exhaustion, resilience, rest, movement and healing, the artist looks beyond these physical states to address the visceral and emotional dimensions of human experience. He sees Hospital objects as extensions of the body that bridge the gap between limitation and potential. His work is deeply informed by empathy, shaped in part by his personal experience of hospitalisation and recovery.

The artist transforms the institutional care, encountered within hospital environments, and instinctive care embedded in domestic spaces, into his immersive and materially layered practice. Expanding his practice through lived experience, he works across new media, technological interventions, and large-scale installations, often creating interactive and multimedia forms.

He was featured in the Top 30 Artist Under 30 by ArtIndia Magazine (2026); and selected for Dastan–e South Asia, Issue 1 by Hidden Gem Collective (2026). He has participated in several group exhibitions like Points of Access (Immerse 5.0) at Somaiya Vidyavihar University, Mumbai (2026), As Tranquil as Can Be: An Invitation to Silence, an installation with Raqs Media Collective curated by Vidya Shivadas at the Serendipity Art Festival, Goa (2025); Legacy of Kala Sakshi at Sameksha Gallery, New Delhi (2025); and he presented Help Yourself, an immersive installation at UAC, SNioE, Delhi NCR (2025).

He has also received Immerse 5.0 Fellowship (2026) and other residencies such as Winter Solace at Dotwalk Ajitara Art Residency, New Delhi (2025) , and Kala Sakshi Memorial Trust (2023). His work has received several accolades, including the Gold Medal and 27 Art Point Award (2024), Best Exhibit at the National Lalit Kala Exhibition, Indore (2023), amongst others. And mentorships with Inlaks x Arthshila (2026) and Akara Contemporary, Mumbai (2025).
