Akshay Madan
Bio
Akshay Madan is an artist and technologist whose practice investigates the architectures of information and their influence on collective consciousness. His work examines how technological infrastructures shape political and social narratives.
As a cinematographer, Akshay has shot documentary feature films including Rasan Piya (2015), a documentary on the life of Hindustani classical vocalist and poet Ustad Abdul Rashid Khan, and If I Could Tell You (2024), an experimental film on the relationship between language, self-discovery and the innate human desire to express.
Akshay’s artistic inquiry is deeply connected to his work as a developer, where he builds open-source frameworks and tools for purpose-driven organizations. This dual practice allows him to simultaneously create systems and critique them, understanding technology both as medium and subject. He proposes ways of thinking that are inventive and alternative to mainstream narratives, treating data as both political material and site of civic intervention.
His recent project Weather Conditions: On Deconstructing The Climate (2025), created in collaboration with Kaldi Moss, developed a prototype console that aggregates streams from multiple media sources (online, broadcast, print and social platforms). The work functions as a forensic instrument, making visible the structural patterns of narrative manipulation and revealing how information architectures engineer belief systems.
