Kedar Dhondu
Bio
Born in 1981, Kedar Dhondu obtained his BFA from Goa College of Arts, Panaji, and went on to pursue Masters Degree from Hyderabad Central University. He has recently been awarded the Kashi Visual Art Award 2008.
Kedar Dhondu often uses the language of miniatures for expressions in his works but his underlying themes deal with the core of violence. He brilliantly juxtaposes the beautiful watercolour medium in his work. Kedar Dhondu says about his works, “The work ‘To Hurt’ is such kind of a work, which I explored in different ways. In this particular work, the spectators will get a feel of ‘attraction and repulsion’. I am interested in the states of mind of human beings. I like to work with those that bite, hurt, which are disturbing. The moment of fear, hurt, misunderstanding and misapprehension is exactly what we right now are going through. In a series of works, ‘To Hurt’, I used different art history references. In these works, I just wanted the spectators to feel the ‘hurt’. The pain is not in the animals that I used in my works such as bull or stag, who obviously cannot feel. The pain is really in the person who is viewing the work.”
Therefore, it is through the artwork, because it represents pain, that one feels this pain and has this visceral relationship or reaction to it. The word ‘hurt’ is very important in my work as it is not only physical torment / torture but it is purely mental activity of human beings.“
Kedar Dhondu has been in participating in various group shows and camps. In 2008: The July Show at The Guild, Mumbai, 2005-06.: State Art Exhibition, 2004-05: Harmony Show, Mumbai. Kedar D has also partcipated in a print-making at a workshop in Bharat Bhavan, Bhopal, 2004-05.
