Mohammad Karim Asir, known to most people as Afghan Charlie Chaplin, was born in 1994. He graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts, Theatre Department of Kabul University, in 2015. Following this, he participated in various international puppet theatre festivals with Parwana Cultural and Artistic Theatre Organisation. In 2016, he was the only Afghan artist who was selected to attend a Paper Theatre MasterClass that was held in New Delhi, India. He started studying towards a Master’s degree from the Department of Visual Arts, Kabul University in 2017. Asir was one of the participants in a South Asia cross-regional theatre project at Kathmandu, Nepal. He also works with organisations like GIZ-ZFD, Goethe-Institut Afghanistan, the British Council, and as a trainer for the theatre of the oppressed in the Faculty of Fine Arts, Kabul University.
