Bio

Nikolay OLEYNIKOV (1976) is a St. Petersburg based artist, member of CHTO DELAT, editor for CHTO DELAT newspaper, member of editorial board of Moscow Art Magazine (2011), co-founder of the Learning Film Group, and May Congress of Creative Workers (Moscow 2009-2011), member of Arkady Kots band. Since 2013 Oleynikov is proud to be a tutor at the SCHOOL of ENGAGED ART of Chto Delat and to get engaged to the board of ROSA’S House of Culture, a multidisciplinary hub for new practices of engaged culture in St.-Petersburg (since 2015). He is also co-piloting Free Home University – an experiment on intersection of art, pedagogy and act. When he was young enough he received an award (Henkel, 2011).

He is deeply obsessed with the materiality and visual reachness of the culture of mourning, circus, cabaret\burlesque etc. He also gets a crush on hybrid bodilities through explicit erotic contents, and political sensuality implemented into the material culture of daily life. Also known for his didactic murals and graphic works within the tradition of the Soviet monumental school, surrealist-like imaginary and punk culture. Works worldwide by his solo projects as well as with number of collective activities, Oleynikov has had numerous international shows including Musée d´Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris – MAM/ARC, Paris; Serralves Museum, Porto; Cittadellarte – Fondazione Pistoletto, Biella; Museo dell Arte Contemporaneo Luiggi Pecci, Prato; Ammirato Culture House, Lecce; Lungomare, Bolzano; Fargfabriken, Stockholm; KOMPLOT, Bruxelles; X BALTIC TRIENNALE in Vilnius; KIBLA, Maribor; <rotor>, Graz; Galerija NOVA and Gotovac Institut, Zagreb.

In Russia his works have been shown at MMOMA; State Tretyakov Gallery and Paperworks Gallery in Moscow; Center for Contemporary Art in Voronezh; and NNCA in Moscow, Yekaterinburg and Nizhny Novgorod; Communal Gallery Yegorka, and Labradoria Intimnoe Mesto, St Petersburg.

Proudly his artworks are present in public collections of RiMaflow Fabbrica recuperata in Milan, and Collezione Comune “Murali Rurali” in parco Renata Fonte in Castiglione d’Otranto.
