Samira Hashemi-Fesharaki
Bio
Samira Hashemi started off her career as an interdisciplinary artist and, early in her endeavours, she began to explore curatorial practice. She utilises her curatorial projects as a means to mediate and connect in order to create a stronger sense of community. She is the co-founder of Va Residency Program and Va Independent Space, which is a wandering art project through the city of c —a program that fosters creative thinking and collaborations by connecting artists, curators, critics, thinkers, and writers through artist residencies, workshops, talks, and projects, both locally and internationally. Hashemi has worked as the curator of Shared-Studios Portals (based in New York City) in Isfahan from 2014 to 2016. Her other recent curatorial projects include “Unfailing memory” at Alter Wihrebahnhof gallery space Freiburg (2015), “Palas” at Supermarket Art Fair, Stockholm (2016),and “Structured Frustrations” at CC Isfahan(2017), “Possible Worlds” at Kunsthahh Potsdam. She is an awardee of the Fellowship for Curatorial Program for Research, Baltic Sea 2017, and selected to go on the Mondriaan Foundation orientation trip for Iranian and Armenian curators, 2017. She is also the recipient of funds from Lisbon City Council (2015), Swedish Institute (2017), and Artists’ Contact from IFA, Germany (2014). She holds an MFA degree in New Genres from San Francisco Art Institute and a BFA from Birmingham City University.
