Showket Kathjoo is a full-time lecturer (Painting) in the Fine Arts College at Srinagar. After completing a Masters in Visual Arts from Rabindra Bharati, Calcutta 2003, he returned to the Kashmir valley and continued his work in exploring the broader perspectives underlying inter-disciplinary approach which possibly encompasses both visual culture (in academia as well as outside academic circles) and popular socio-political culture. This close corollary between the two seems to deviate in different directions in the immediate space he inherited. For Kathjoo it has been a deep on-going involvement to translate the landscape, socio-political culture, modes of resistance, and subjective conflicts into a gamut of images which shape both his expression and responses to the questions and sensibility arising in daily experiences.
