Bio
Born in 1983, she completed her BFA in Paintings from Goa University in 2004 and Post Graduate Diploma in Painting from M.S. University, Baroda in 2006. She was guided by artist Rajendra Usapkar from 1999-2004 and studied under the structured guidance of artist Rekha Rodwittiya from 2004-2006.
She has held one solo exhibition “Prelude to an Overture” at Hacienda Art Gallery, Mumbai in 2009. She has also been part of several group shows and curated exhibitions like “Quiet Conversations from the Courtyard” curated by Rekha Rodwittiya at Ashvita in Chennai in 2012, “Regional Art Exhibition” at Lalit Kala Akademi in Chennai in 2012, “Feminine Syntax – Personal Biographies” curated by Rekha Rodwittiya at Lemongrasshopper Art Gallery in Ahmedabad in 2011, “19th Sosabeol International Art Expo Flame Show” in South Korea in 2010, “Theen Tamasha: Theen Taal”, at Time & Space Gallery in Bangalore in 2010, “Nothing will ever be the same again”, Hirji Art Gallery in Mumbai in 2009, “Card-O-Logy”, at Hacienda Art Gallery in Mumbai in 2009, “India 1×1” at The Loft Art Gallery in Mumbai in 2009, “Art Bazaar” at Coomaraswamy Hall, Prince of Wales Museum in Mumbai in 2008, etc.
Sonatina has been the recipient of the ‘Nasreen Mohammedi Award’ at the Post Graduate level in 2006 and the ‘Camlin Award’ at the Graduate level in 2004. She has been part of a trip to Gir Forest in Gujarat for a camp organised by Diya Art Foundation in 2010, a ‘Print-Making Camp’ hosted by Rakesh Agrawal at Uttarayan Art Centre in Jaspur in 2010, travelled to Turkey for an artist tour hosted by Canvas in 2008. She lives and works in Baroda.
