Sujay Saple
Bio
Sujay Saple is a performance maker, performer, visual designer and workshop conductor based between Mumbai and Bangalore. He has worked actively in the performing arts field since 2002, and has been involved in more than 50 performance projects. He is Artistic Director of Shapeshift, an experimental performance group he founded in 2012, which specializes in creating movement-based work and engaging performers and audiences with formally radical and politically relevant art. He has created 10 original works with Shapeshift, which have performed at various festivals and prestigious venues across India and received rave reviews. His current practice with Shapeshift has moved towards collaborating with co-creators from different disciplines such as sound art, installation, visual arts and choral music among others. From 2014-16, he headed ALT+Space, an open online research project chronicling over 40 alternative spaces for performance across India. He was visiting faculty for performance at KRIVIA architecture college from 2013-16, and was a partner and programmer for movement/dance at The Mumbai Assembly from 2016-18.He regularly conducts workshops in movement and devising for professionals, students and children, both in India and abroad. He has also exercised his proficiency as an administrator for various theatre festivals, theatre conferences, curation of workshops, artistic exchanges and international collaborations.
