Thiago Pinto Barbosa is a social and cultural anthropologist and a lecturer in anthropology at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam as well as at the University of Göttingen. His current research deals with the production of anthropological knowledge on human difference in/between Germany and India and the intersection between race and caste.

Urmila Deshpande is the author of several novels and short story collections whose characters frequently cross boundaries. She’s also a granddaughter of Dr Irawati Karve. Thiago and Urmilla are also the authors of a new biography of Irawati Karve to be published by Speaking Tiger Books in 2024.
