The artwork I did in India was a reaction to what I saw there in Bihar and to what people and colleagues I
met told me. For example, stories from Hinduism that an art historian told me late at night during a long bus ride to Bodh Gaya, about Indian gods and goddesses, about Rama, Sita and Hanuman and so on. I could not forget those tales, because I saw so much psychological material in them, besides the charm of a beautiful story. I tried to find a form with my drawings, to catch the sublime atmosphere when the sun is almost rising over the Ganges, everything is grey like in a black and white photo, and you are sitting in a small wooden boat with a snake swimming on the bottom of the boat too. The peace and danger are something that describe India for me. I watched a mongoose, passing by the hut, which was my studio in the wilderness we lived there in Patna, and I felt protected by their brevity, speediness and beauty. Out of these impressions I tried to filter ideas for drawings, which are meaningful not only for me but for other people too.
