Caroline Bergvall’s works, ‘Cropped’ and ‘Voice’, bring to the idea of poetics, the energy of displacement. In creating philosophical mobile narratives and forms that move across walls as text and fill up spaces as sound, a deeply sensuous engagement with the poetic form is arrived at. Bergvall is able to work with the tension between the narrative and the non-narrative by breaking almost literally the spatial continuum that shapes ones expectations of a poetic text. Voices become presences and slowly free themselves of the words and begin to wander across the larger landscape of speculations. Mystery returns to utterance. Here is a possibility, possibly a glimpse of the inchoate, that voice cannot be legislated.
