Ghetto Hoarder
The installation mimics aspects of touch and intimacy in the context of the Khirki Extension Neighbourhood. All the various doors, windows, railings and community objects that somehow have now become architectural objects are collected in crochet forms, and suspended in a manner that stimulates the chaotic and compact nature of Khirki. Whilst walking through the lanes, one can feel the weight of the architecture and the transitoriness of purpose with which it was built. It felt like a transient yet settled space, which engulfs and overwhelms but also isolates you at the same time. Interacting with objects detached from their functional context creates a certain amount of tension and friction, which opens windows to alternate approaches and connections within the object universe. The installation transforms these architectural objects by isolating them, expanding their material aspirations and observing a sense of interconnectedness amongst them.
