Tibetan Buddhism considers the wisdom of Buddha’s body, speech and mind essential in the practice of the dharma. However, traditional Tibetan thangka or religious scroll painting focuses on images of Buddha and Bodhisttvas in its iconographic representations. This Poetry Thangka, is to underscore the importance of speech or words. This was also inspired by Ri-lung Tsatsig or Mountain-Valley Edicts, annual thangka-style handwritten environmental guidelines, issued by the Tibetan Government as early as the seventeenth century and sent to every district across Tibet. The poem however has no Buddhist subtext.
