Roshanara’s Net
This project explores issues of sustainability in relation to urban ecology and community awareness, using the locale of the neglected archaeological site of Roshanara Park.
A newly created medicinal garden focuses on sustainability in terms
of the small scale. The installation asks whether it is possible to choreograph a different urban map, subverting the habitual and familiar codes of community usage; whether it is possible to create a new mental cartography with regard to the park, thus offering the potential for new experiences; whether there are long-term consequences of radically transforming a space for a short period; whether the existing infrastructure of tlie historic garden complex can be incorporated as elements in such schemes of transformation; and whether the material change would add a new layer to the history and tradition of the garden, a fresh iteration that retains the memory otfits earlier form while addressing contemporary issues.
