These twin pairs of zines show two different stories. One is the well-known story of the rapid development of the internet and computing, the other the lesser-known one of the role of women in its development. The infozines investigate history through parallel panels, questioning the prevalent male dominated (tech bro) narrative in the innovation industry.

The blue guide shows the evolution of computing technology through a chronological timeline. It reflects the evolution of power, design, and zeitgeist through the years since the very first analog computer that was discovered in Greece called Antikythera till the power of and hype around generative AI today.

The need for a feminist guide can only be made visible by the existence of another story: the one we all hear often. During the artist’s research into the history of the internet and the advent of AI, she realized that all the literature came from a limited and prominent demographic. Marginalized voices found very little space or were left as footnotes. To shift the dominant narrative and reveal lesser-known stories, she designed the feminist zine, as a conversation-starter for the challenges facing the landscape of technology today.

Thus, the pair of zines called ‘The Twin Guides to Computing’. And to further reiterate the difference, they are printed on a different colour of paper. Everything else is the same—the parallel panels, the layout, and typefaces. The stark contrast enables the retelling of the forgotten story.
