Radical Housing and Socially-Engaged Art

True to its name, this exhibition remains unfinished. The completed works I was meant to carry to Delhi were left suspended, caught between the fires of war and the cancellation of flights.

Over these past few months, we have moved through strange and crushing states of being. The echoes of nightly bombardments and the insomnia following the high-tension war with Israel; the relentless economic pressure, the rising cost of essentials, the national uprising, and the subsequent loss of so many friends and compatriots.

Throughout this time, the artists and I sought refuge in empathy. We tried to hold space for one another, to put what happened to us into dialogue, to care for each other, and to review our work over and over until it reached a result that brought us peace.

The final pieces were ready only a few days before the current war began, but they have still not reached my hands. Half remain at the print shop, some in the drawers of rooms, and the rest in suitcases packed to find a safer place.

We are all well; our bodies are healthy to an extent, and we continue to inquire after the state of each other’s souls. We are saddened that our voices have not reached you, but we hope to gather again in better days to bring our work to its conclusion.
