We were honoured to be supported by 10 leading contemporary artists who generously donated works in support of KHOJ. The 10 works were auctioned as part of Christie’s – The India Sale, which took place at the Taj Mahal Palace, Mumbai.

The donations by artists Anish Kapoor, Anita Dube, Atul Dodiya, Bharti Kher, Dayanita Singh, Mithu Sen, Nilima Sheikh, Shilpa Gupta, Subodh Gupta and Thukral & Tagra signified their commitment towards ensuring the future legacy of the organisation.

As a not-for-profit organisation, KHOJ has never been driven by financial gain, seeking to operate outside of the established market. Many of the artists who have walked through the metaphorical and literal doors of KHOJ have since achieved international, critical, and commercial acclaim. Artists like Subodh Gupta, Bharti Kher and Atul Dodiya have been represented in major international institutions and collections and have participated in biennales the world over. Their success has not diminished or diluted the sense of community that KHOJ fostered between them and they remain forever part of the extended KHOJ family. It was fitting therefore that ten of these prestigious artists, now superstars of contemporary art, generously donated a lot for the auction.

All proceeds from the auction would make possible KHOJ’s enduring legacy, through the consolidation of its corpus and a move towards self-sustenance. The auction was an integral part of KHOJ’s fundraising program with the proceeds from the sale ensuring that KHOJ would continue its commitment to contemporary art practice in India and South Asia, by providing an incubation space for emerging artists and art practices.
