Shuddhabrata Sengupta
Bio
Shuddhabrata Sengupta is a media practitioner, artist, and writer interested in the areas of new media and digital art practice, media research, interpreting the city and the urban experience, open source models for creativity, and networked histories. He is a member of the Raqs Media Collective, which is a co-initiator of the Sarai Programme at the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies, Delhi. Raqs Media Collective have been variously described as a group of artists, media practitioners, curators, researchers, editors and catalysts of cultural processes. Their work, which has been exhibited widely in major international spaces, locates them in the intersections of contemporary art, historical enquiry, philosophical speculation, research and theory – often taking the form of installations, online and offline media objects, performances and encounters. Shuddhabrata’s works have been displayed at the Black Box: Raqs Media Collective Baltimore Museum of Art, USA (2013), a commission at Performa 13, New York, USA (2013), a group exhibition at the Ullens Centre for Contemporary Art, Beijing (2013), “Where Do We Migrate To?”, a solo exhibition at the Contemporary Art Centre, New Orleans (2012), a solo exhibition at The Photographers’ Gallery, London (2012), among numerous others.
