The hustle and bustle of the Baruipur bazaar was infinitely more interesting to me than the deserted rooms of Chaudhuri Bari. I attempted to bring the clamour and colour of the marketplace into the elitist precincts of the zamindari estate. From locally available chart paper, I made a number of colourful little garments that I had viewed in the bazaar. These I installed in a crowded arrangement on a cruciform pedestal of sorts on the rooftop of Chaudhuri Bari. I surrounded the whole arrangement with tiny fairy lights that are popularly used in the marketplace for purposes of decoration. As night fell, the lights twinkled and the garments appeared to come alive, as if milling in the marketplace and on the crowded streets of the Baruipur bazaar.
