International Workshop Kolkata 2006
From 1997 until 2001, KHOJ conducted the International Artist Workshop mostly at Sikribagh, a quasi-colonial bungalow in Modinagar, offered for the workshop by SK Modi. The workshop functioned as an experimental art laboratory that brought together artists from all over the world to create a co-operative and non-hierarchical space, encouraging critical dialogue, exchange and the transference of information and skills.
- Sep 30, 2006 to Oct 15, 2006
- 14 Days ( Non- Residential)
About this edition
The 2006 KHOJ International Workshop was held in Kolkata in Baruipur, which is a suburb on the southern fringes of the city rapidly being engulfed in the urban sprawl. The 24 participating artists were invited to respond through their creative practice to the site of Chaudhuri Bari of Baruipur, a luxuriant structure set amidst extensive gardens suspected to be constructed in the latter half of the 19th century. The building essentially follows the pattern of a residential dwelling with an introverted courtyard; several traditional arches and columns represent the aspirations and status of affluent families of the era.
