Fortunately this project introduced me with various things about Chilika. I studied various stories, mythologies, poems, knew the history. Discussed ecological problems, and met different people to identify new facts about Chilika. From the beginning I conceptualized that I’ll express all these things through puppets. But when I went through a poem of Odia poet Kabibar Radhanath Ray, a new idea developed in my mind. I decided to re-imagine Chilika through the eye of this great Odia poet. He has fantastically expressed every corner of Chilika in this ‘Chilika’ poem. The poem takes us back and reflects the beauty of ancient Chilika. I am planning to represent the poem through our puppets and comparatively examine it with Chilika’s present condition.
