Two short pieces by Iranian-Dutch video artist Sara Rajaei were screened as part of KHOJ‘s Curatorial Intensive South Asia Fellowship 2019. These were: 1978 the 231st Day (2012) and A Composition in Blue, Red & Other Colours (2018).
In 1978 the 231st Day, the narrator’s words unfold the facts and mythology around the forgotten incident of a movie theatre set on fire. The piece grapples with the pain and anguish of recollecting and reflecting upon a catastrophe while indulging in the comfort and solace of storytelling.
A Composition in Blue, Red & Other Colours features a protagonist questing for a voice, to channel hitherto repressed memories of a hostile world.
