Bio
Yash Vyas emerges as a distinguished visual artist originating from Saurashtra in East Gujarat, India. His adeptness lies in unearthing and delving into abandoned locales that echo within his body, as well as in the pursuit of overlooked domains and objects imbued with personal significance. Yash frequently retraces his steps to his hometown via freight trains and buses, capturing these locales through his lens as this process functions as a dual source of deliberate and receptive inspiration for his artistic endeavors. Yash’s artistic methodology revolves around the intricate interplay of construction and deconstruction, collection and duplication, skillfully weaving together the dichotomies of space, structure, memory, and culture within the realm of his creative fabrication.
Educationally, Yash holds both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Visual Art – Sculpture from the esteemed Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad University of Baroda. He garners recognition from esteemed national institutions, including the Royal Academy of Arts – Karnataka, and the All India Fine Art Association Amritsar. Notably, Yash earned the esteemed Mrinalini Mukherjee Artist Grant in 2021.
Yash’s artistic expressions have graced the walls of numerous prestigious galleries across India, spanning cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Goa, Kolkata, Bhopal and Karnataka. In spite of the challenging pandemic landscape, he remarkably contributed to an online solo exhibition and four online group exhibitions. Moreover, Yash actively engaged in the Student’s Biennale 2021 Workshop titled ‘Unmaking Conventions,’ led by the erudite Prof. Sanchayan Ghosh. He also participated in the Khoj Peers residency in 2022, a program culminating in an exhibition at Khoj Studios, New Delhi.
His creations found an audience at significant venues such as Dhoomimal Gallery and Bikaner House in New Delhi, where he participated in the annual Group Show. Yash’s participation extended to the group exhibition ‘Allegories of Space’ at The Lexicon Art Gallery, New Delhi, in December 2022. Early in 2022, he had engaged in a notable collaboration with the Conflictorium Museum (Ahmedabad) and Stroom Den Haag (Netherlands), a project titled ‘Elephant in the Room,’ which subsequently gained recognition through publication in May 2023.
Yash Vyas also played a pivotal role in Gallery XXL’s inaugural exhibition ‘OUTSIDERS,’ a captivating display showcased in Colaba, Mumbai, from May to June 2023. More Recently, Yash exhibited his works alongside Gulam Mohammad Sheikh, Jyotsna Bhatt, Jyoti Bhatt, Bhupen Khakhar, Raghav Kaneria, N.S Bendre, Naina Dalal, and K.G Subramanyan at The Horizon Gallery
Vadodara. Furthermore, he is set to participate in a group show titled “Rupak” with the Hidden Artist Initiative in May.
Presently, Yash Vyas establishes his residence and artistic practice in Vadodara, Gujarat, where he continues to forge thought-provoking pieces that challenge conventional paradigms in the world of art.
