Peers Peers Continuum: A Relay of Reciprocity
The Khoj Peers residency program provides emerging artists and creative practitioners a platform for dialogue, experimentation, and exchange. This helps in building a forum and creating a network of young interdisciplinary artists from various art, architecture, new media, performance, performing arts and design disciplines.
About this edition
In 2003, Khoj started the Peers residency to nurture a vibrant ecosystem for young artists and emerging practices. We aimed to expand the arts community, provide a platform for burgeoning talent, and cultivate a space for experimentation and engagement with the broader artistic community. Over the years, the Peers residency has been a springboard for a diverse array of artists, who have since advanced their careers and broadened the scope of the arts in the region.
As we reimagine our lives and spaces in this rapidly evolving world, creating space for artists remains as vital as it was in 2003. This year, we are marking two decades of the Peers residency, and we called on our alumni to contribute to this fundraiser, to help strengthen and grow the program for the next twenty years. Peers Continuum: A Relay of Reciprocity is not merely a contribution to sustain the residency for years to come but a gesture of care, reciprocity, and community-building. Peers is essential for fostering a community, making space, claiming space, and, most importantly, welcoming emerging practitioners as they develop their practices.
With this vision in mind, we ask the Peers alumni: Can the artist predict the future of the spaces we inhabit? As we reimagine and strengthen the role of artists in society, Khoj propositions the Peers alumni to speculate on the future of our lived environments, imagining landscapes that blend mythical with mechanical and biotic with human and non-human. How much can this new land hold? How much can its ether and waters sustain? What is their forecast for the future? What is their next best guess? Khoj’s provocation is to ask artists, as prescient beings, to speculatively see the future of our lived environment.
Peers Continuum: A Relay of Reciprocity is an invitation from Peers alumni to future generations of artists to move away from hyper-individualism and thrive in a community, allowing Khoj to be an incubator of ideas and practices. It is not just about honoring the past but also about envisioning a shared future.
