Sashikanth investigates the various capabilities of drawing through his practise. Re-exploring the medium that first popularised conceptual and minimal art, he is redefining the forms that were influenced by those movements. He analyses angles, architecture, monochromes and neon lights to offer a critical view on modernity and the environment. The practicality of form and space inspired Shashikant’s passion in sketching. Shashikanth’s practise continues to heavily focus on utilising the possibilities of drawing and its variants in visual arts. The investigation of materials and their potential is the second aspect of his practice. Materiality and its notions of bodily traits and connotations are primary knowledge. Utilising them in artworks is difficult because they are not traditional art-making materials. However, the meaning socially attached to these resources, makes the works a powerful socio-political tool for the critique of practices that are still prevalent. How materials function as a container for thoughts and information are communicated through the art and received accordingly by the spectator. Shashikanth lives and works in Vadodara, Gujarat, India.
