Cross – Hatchings : New Delhi – Perth International Studio Exchange Program 2025
Khoj and Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts (PICA) are pleased to announce Cross-Hatching, an international studio exchange program between New Delhi and Perth, Australia.
About this edition
Khoj and the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts (PICA) are now accepting applications from mid-career Western Australia based artists for a six-week studio exchange program at Khoj between August-September 2025.
Building on Khoj’s long-standing engagement with the intersections of art and urbanism, the 2025 residency program will explore responses to the complexities of high-density built and natural environments. We invite applications from artists whose practices critically engage with the nuances of urban density—whether in terms of spatial occupation, the architectural fabric of cities, urban planning, or the layered ecosystems of communities and public spaces.
We are particularly interested in works that probe the tensions and synergies between human-made structures and natural landscapes, and that reflect on the lived realities of urban environments, from overcrowded megacities to rapidly expanding peripheries. Artists are encouraged to think through how cityscapes evolve, the politics of space, and the ways in which urban living impacts identity, ecology, accessibility and social relations.
This residency aims to foster dialogue on how dense environments shape our understanding of place, community, and belonging, offering a platform for experimental, interdisciplinary approaches that push the boundaries of urban thinking through art.
Artists are encouraged to interpret and engage with the residency’s themes in their own unique ways, reflecting critically on the transformations of contemporary urban life and questioning how architecture, spatial dynamics, and social interactions are influenced by dense urban environments.
