Bio

Founder of Social Design Collaborative, Swati Janu is an architect, artist and writer based in Delhi whose work engages with housing rights, migration and urban informality. Her inter-disciplinary practice combines community engagement and activism with policy advocacy in Indian cities. Swati has previously been awarded an art and research grant by Arts and Humanities Research Council UK in 2014, the Sarai research fellowship by Centre for the Study of Developing Societies, Delhi in 2016 and a year long community art grant by Khoj International Artists’ Association in 2017 after being an artist in residence at the ‘Coriolis Effect: Migration and Memory’ residency. A graduate from School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi, Swati holds an MSc in Sustainable Urban Development from University of Oxford, UK and currently teaches at Ambedkar University, Delhi.
