Art and Environment Residency 2004

The Art & Environment international residency focused on the importance of facilitating a sustainable balance between man and nature through restoration, education and multidisciplinary collaboration. Resident artists were actively involved in unpacking the political tensions of the environment, whilst also responding to the social and cultural issues arising from such tensions.

About this programme

The environment is beginning to be perceived as a political space, more so than an ecological one; the notion of politics arises when modes of production, consumption, and ownership rights are brought to the forefront and forced to be considered. Artists, in turn are responding to this shift by becoming actively involved in the political tensions of the environment, whilst also responding to the social and cultural issues which arise from such tensions. Within this context, KHOJ, in collaboration with CHINTAN (an environment research and action group), organised the Art and Environment International Residency. The residency focused on the importance of facilitating a sustainable balance between man and nature through restoration, education, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
