Performance Art 2006
The move towards performance in the contemporary visual arts continues to raise eyebrows and throw up questions about its place in contemporary art practice. The Performance Residency program was curated with the intention of bringing together various practices within ‘performance’ and ‘live art’ to re-energise and redefine the conceptual nature and practice of ‘performance’ in India.
About this edition
The 2006 Performance Art residency was curated with the intention to bring together various practices within ‘performance’ and ‘live art’ and create a potpourri of talents aimed at re-energising and redefining the conceptual nature and practice of ‘performance’ in India. To pursue this direction, the residency expanded to include seven artists. Each artist came from a diverse trajectory and each, through their practice, worked towards opening up new spaces within the dominant trends of performance art.
