gasp slowly
On the floor: Cushions for comfort and handmade artist books
On the walls: Drawings with carbon paper and gouache paint
gasp slowly seeks to think through rest and pause, situating their unique moments within restive, furtive, laborious journeys across borders or in transit. The work assembles, without aggregating, various points of entry to these questions— through large, tentacular cushions stitched from old saris, through a series of drawings made with carbon paper, through cloudbursts of colour on the wall.
Does the world allow us to acknowledge the choices, efforts, sweat, and tears that shape the edifice of comfort; the shapes of care and responsibility that keep things from coming apart at the seams? Can acknowledgement be a point of arrival that needs to be addressed, spreading its tentacles and leaving its traces across every plane that bears these histories?
