This two and a half day short course on the Fundamentals of Arts Management was held at Thinkering, Takshila Centre in Goa and was attended by arts and cultural professionals from Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Udaipur, Jaipur, Chennai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai & Thane. The course covered several topics including Strategic Planning, Marketing, Financial Budgeting and Management among others.

The cultural sector in India is growing rapidly and yet there is an acute deficit of trained cultural managers, especially those who are equipped with both the artistic sensibilities and management abilities. Cultural organisations are distinct from business enterprises and therefore managing them requires a unique set of skills.

Innovative cultural management is essential to develop a professional approach and devise strategies for sustainability in the sector. Rigorous training of arts and cultural professionals will not only help them in the planning and development of sustainable cultural organisations but also equip them to be part of the much-needed conversations around cultural policy, creative economy, and art for social change.
