This project focuses on the effects, on daily life and on collective memory, of a single, omniscient technological agent. The motor – in its various forms as engine, dynamo, pump etc. – is arguably the most important driver in the history of industrialization, while also being a major source of environmental pollution. Simultaneously, it has a deep and contested relationship with human labour, as is revealed by even a cursory look at the history of factories, vehicles, and tools. This art project, in the form of a ride through a landscape, touches upon the complex, ongoing but also no-longer-there relationships that motors and machines have had with labour, “nature”, commerce, creativity and confidence, in a neighborhood in North Delhi.
