Khoj is delighted to announce the launch of The Observatory: Second Site, by artist-curators Rohini Devasher and Legion Seven on 14th April 2023 | 6:30pm at Khoj Studios.

The project began as a live lecture performance at Kaserne Basel in Switzerland, and is now a web-hosted digital art project and physical exhibition commissioned and produced by Khoj Studios, supported by Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia, and Goethe Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan

The Observatory : Second Site is the first satellite of an expanding project. It began as the multidisciplinary lecture performance The Observatory, which unpacked the trajectory of Saturn’s first observations until its contemporary renderings to reveal the complexities of observational astronomy, and the ways in which ‘seeing’ is strange, wondrous, and more ambiguous than one might imagine.

The project takes on the shape of a model planetary system; and is host to worlds that fracture, expand and evolve this reading. At the core of the work is the question of how perception transforms the object, and thus how the unlearning of established ways of seeing impacts the way we observe ourselves within the universe.

The exhibition opening was followed by a performance and a talk by the artists.
