Khirkee Ki Khoj : Arts Education Program

Khirkee ki Khoj were a series of community-based collaborative art projects, focused on creating accessible spaces to generate interactive dialogues with the Khirkee community. Eleven artists worked in collaboration with shopkeepers in Khirkee to develop a collective method of art-making.

About this edition

The Khirkee mural of May 2005 was an unwavering success and Khirkee-ki-Khoj was an extension of this project. KHOJ was approached by the Principal of the Gyan Deep Public School who invited the artists who had painted the mural to teach their students art. A group of artists accepted the offer and worked on refreshing the school art curriculum. Aastha Chauhan, Sanjay Sharma, Ram Bali Chauhan, Rohini Devasher and Sonia Mehra Chawla, met the students twice a week throughout autumn and winter session, experimenting with exhibitions, photography, match sticks, cloth, magazine, wool, paint, glue and beyond.
