Associate Residency 2006

Associate Residencies are shorter, self-directed residencies in which the artists are free to experiment and explore new directions in the process and production of their projects. These residencies allow greater flexibility to both the artists in terms of time and to Khoj as it allows for a rolling application process.

About this edition

This residency examined the role that art can play in the realm of collective trauma. The terrors of Gujarat in 2002 were considered as one case study open for exploration. The project addresses a range of diverse issues from personal loss, to displacement, the possibility of mobilisation and economic revival through visual language.

Vasudha Thozhur (Baroda) and Brendan Jamison (Belfast) came together in this project to collaboratively delve into the realm of possibilities. Brendan Jamison worked on a series of outdoor site-specific wool works that were created in direct response to the architectural features of the KHOJ building combined with a selection of small sculptures created in response to Vasudha Thozur’s community-based art projects.
