In Context: Public.Art.Ecology 2010

KHOJ’s program was initiated to create public dialogue around ecological issues through artistic projects and interventions; over two years through its InContext residencies, KHOJ has narrowed its focus to projects and interventions dealing with food.

About this edition

The first In Context: residency commenced at the beginning of March 2010. The participating artists’ (from India, Germany, Japan and the USA) projects focussed on interventions in the public sphere. The curatorial intent underlying the residency was rooted in the desire to highlight the dialogic aspect of the artists’ thematics and interventions.

Projects ranged from mapping weather patterns and the effects of climate change on local communities, to an interactive video sculpture examining the signification of trees in the context of road zones, designing a tableaux that would interact with people through questions around conservation, building a natural biological water purification system, and one final project that traced the paths of people and their constitutive objects from Chandni Chowk to Gurgaon.

Live Weather at KHOJ was part of a global weather network developed by Andrea Polli & Chuck Varga called Hello Weather.

Artists talks were held at 5 pm on the 12th, 19th, 26th of March at the FICA Reading Room.

The Open Day of the residency was scheduled on the 8th of April 2010.
